Villaricca - Capital of Guaira

Villarica, one of the biggest cities of Paraguay, is the centre of Paraguay’s Oriental Region and the capital of Guaira Department. It was found on 14thMay 1570, by Ruy Diaz de Melgarejo, who was a Spanish Captain, in the region of old Guaira, which is presently a part of Brazil. Villarrica is nurtured with the Paraguayan civilization.

Bacón Prado, who was a musician and journalist, wrote in his work that Villarcia is the town filled with eternal youth; breeze comes from hills and is born from the waters of Bacón Duarte Prado. The monument was built in the honor of the famous poet and musician Manuel Ortiz Guerrero, a citizen of Villarica, is one of the major highlights of the city.

This city is situated close to the Ybyturuzú that is a facet of the mountain sequence known as Caaguazú. The land here is coarse and woody which is good for agriculture, i.e. for the crops like teak trees, cattle, wood and sugar cane. The weather in this region is healthy and is favorable, both for crops and for people. The average temperature recorded here is 21 °C. In the winter season it is liable to decrease by 1°C and in summer it raises up to 38°C. It rains in the months of October to November.

The economic base of the Villarrica city is mostly on agriculture. The other economic activities are the textile industry, dairy products, breed of small animals, commerce and services.

The place that should be visited is the famous park Manuel Ortiz Guerrero. This park is in the north of the city that comes in the neighborhood of San Miguel and Ybaroty. Other highlighted places can be, private belongings of Fermín López and Natalicio Talavera, ammunitions and armed belongings of the Chaco War, Maestro “Fermín López” of Municipal Library and Museum that include the group of assorted coins and bills and other artifacts like religious arts, paintings, machines, furniture, axes, narrow arrows and bows.

Villarrica city is one of the most important cities of Paraguay and stands second in the number of cultural growth. It is a beautiful city to visit.
