Encarnación is the capital city of Itapua, the Paraguayan department. It is situated in the southern region of Paraguay and is 365 kilometers away from Asuncion, the capital city of the country. Encarnación is opposite to Posadas, the city of Argentina. Both of these cities are connected by a bridge, called San Roque Gonzalez de Santa Cruz.
The city Encarnación was brought into being on 25th March, 1615 by the Jesuits. It has a population of 67,173 residents, as per the census of 2002. The city is covered with all the basic facilities and services. The city is also home for many foreigners that include Arabic, Korean, Japanese, Poles, Ukrainians and Germans. The weather of the city is subtropical and is on an average of 20 ° C. The maximum temperature in summer goes up to 40 ° C and in winter it falls up to -5 ° C.
You can reach the city by several ways such as Route no.1- Mariscal Francisco Solano López that connects Encarnacion with the capital city, Asuncion. Another route is Puente Internacional San Roque Gonzalez de Santa Cruz that connects Encarnacion with Argentina. You can also opt for Doctor Juan León Mallorquín that connects with the Ciudad del Este, the city of three borders.
The most beautiful place in Encarnacion is the Jesuit ruins of Trinidad del Paraná and Jesus de Tavarangue which is a UNESCO world heritage site. They were mostly finished by the time of Jesuit expulsion in 1767. These were designed by Italian artist Juan Bautista Primoli.
You can also visit the Yacyreta power dam and find the best wild life of Paraguay. Here you can see variety of mammals, reptiles and birds. In February, every weekend, the city organizes a traditional Carnival parade along with the Avenue of main city. You can enjoy here the several carrozas that has colorful dancers wearing beautiful costumes.
