Founded in 1985, Fundación Paraguayais the pioneer in promoting entrepreneurship in Paraguay. It is widely spread among 136 cities and has 17 regional offices throughout the country.
It was founded by a group of social and business leaders who were frustrated by the dictatorship and the inability of the dictator to solve the problems of poverty in the nation. The original idea was to improve the business skills of the small entrepreneurs, benefiting themselves as well as the community. The foundation understood that the main reason that prevented the business growth was not lack of skill, rather was the lack of credit. The foundation then stated that small loans will create enormous difference in the stability of the business. As the dictatorship ended, the Fundacion Paraguaya ignited new possibilities in the cooperative sector. The biggest challenge for Paraguay was to bring economic development in the rural areas. The Paraguayan Foundation was awarded a School of Agriculture as a part of their development model - The Self-sufficient Organic Farm School.
Fundacion Paraguaya became the first microfinance organization in 1985 that was established on the pillars of innovation, optimism and hard work. Presently, it has 37 microfinance clients and 20 regional offices. It has become a leader in the field of providing credit to the business and is continuing its success.
Fundacion Paraguay has proudly developed two unique landmarks which are directly targeted to the youngsters. The first is Junior Achievement which is a program or idea that teaches entrepreneurship to high school students by making them understand the basics or rules to develop their own business. This not only makes one perfect with real life business skills amongst the youth, but also has increased the graduation rate among the members. The second is self sufficient Organic Agricultural School where it teaches ranching, farming skills and modern business to the rural Paraguayans who will always maintain an agricultural lifestyle throughout their lives. Fundacion Paraguaya is teaching these skills to the farmers to become more competitive in the global market. This is one of the most successful schools which has explained rural economic development to the world and has its branches in multiple countries.
