The foreign policies of Paraguay are concentrated on keeping good relations with its neighbor countries.

Until the early 1990s, almost nothing about Paraguay was known in Russia. A secluded Latin American nation, the fascist despotism of Alfredo Stroessner, the bullying of Communists, a pro-American system, etc. etc. – this is what came to brains for Soviet citizens upon listening the word “Paraguay.”

In spite of Brazil's changeover to a civilian government in year 1985 and the rendezvous in year 1987 of its first nonmilitary ambassador to Asunción in 20 years, Paraguayan-Brazilian relationships remained good.

Paraguay and the United States have widespread relations at the business, personal and government level.
