Paraguay's school system is divided into:

Universities provide higher education, which can be both public and private. There exists a non-university level is known as Técnico Superior, this title is a gateway to higher education, but this is not an academic degree. Just as the school system, the University of Paraguay is also divided into two stages, first (Título de Grado: Licenciado, Professional Title) and second (Título de Postgrado: Especialista, Magister, Doctor).
Special emphasis is also given on the training of teachers for basic education / primary and secondary and higher education. Basic school teachers must receive training in a teacher training institute for 4 years. After the competition of training a teacher receives a title of Profesor de la Educación Escolar Básica
Secondary school teachers also go through 4 years of training and after successful completion of the program; they receive Profesor de Enseñanza Secundaria. University professors must have complete a special course for one semester in high school known Instituto Superior de Educación. They are divided into categories Profesor Titular, Profesor Adjunto, Profesor Asistente. There are 2 universities in Paraguay, Catholic and National University.
