José Asunción Flores was born in a humble hut in the La Chacarita (Ricardo Brugada) on August 27, 1904. His mother was Magdalena Flores. At the age of 11 in 1915 he joined the Band of the Police of the Capital, whose directors were Eugenio Campanini, Mariano Godoy, Salvador Dentice and Nicolino Pellegrini.
Felix Fernandez, a former student, the instructor was more immediate. Ten years later, restless and talented, faced with the task of overcoming the struggle of the application of the scores of Paraguay, especially for foreign musicians. By then, Flores, who have already completed their studies in Theory and Solfeggio was replacing the trombone in the band with the violin.
Straightly, product of anxious experiments and studies, he achieved in the making of the Guarania, in1925. Persuaded by his peers Felix Fernandez, Rudencindo Lugo, Manuel Rivas Ortellado, Silvestre Jovellanos, Dario Gomez Serrato, Manuel Cardozo, Gerardo Fernandez Moreno and Santiago Torres, for whose Flores have eternally declared his gratitude. The Guarania was born of a few arrangements completed by Flores to the de Rogelio Recalde, Polka Maerãpa Reikuaase. It was when he deepens his study with Leopoldo Centurion and Carlos Esculies in Paraguayan Gimnasium.
Guarania Jejuí was first; followed by Arribeño Resay, India and Ka'a letter t lyrics by Rigoberto Fontao Meza (Guerrero Ortiz later wrote the lyrics now known in India). Later, Ortiz Guerrero, who met Flowers in 1928 at the invitation of Darío Gómez Serrato, produced the most beautiful pages of the popular repertory, especially in the genre of guaranias. The guarania India, along with the epic song by Cerro Corá by Herminio Gimenez and Felix Fernandez was declared the official music of the government decree on 24 June 1944.
With Catalina Flores, his children are Olgra Flores and Francisco Asuncion, and another mother, Juana de Dios Flores. José Asunción Flores died in separate on May 16, 1972 in Buenos Aires. His remains were repatriated in 1991, and rest in the Choferes de Chaco and Plaza de Mariscal Lopez, Asunción, the square that bears his name and the name of his dear friend and co-author Manuel Ortiz Guerrero.
