The literature of Paraguay has developed to a great extent over a period of time, to gain importance in the worldwide stage of literature. A number of writers have contributed a lot, by their works for the development of Paraguayan Literature.

The major writers in Paraguay mostly write in Guarani language and they deal mainly in prose. Many novels of Paraguayan writers have been translated to different languages and are very much popular among the readers across the world. The major literacy works that have been published in Paraguay, has been widely accepted by all and mainly by the literacy critics. All these have aided to make Paraguayan Literature one of the most extensively read and popular literature on the planet. The collections are preserved in the National Library and Archives, one of the oldest libraries which hold around 44,000 volumes. This is Paraguay's principal libraries located in Asuncion. The National University of Asuncion also has a great collection of literature, with 26,100 volumes.
