Nestor Amarilla, born on 24 July 1980, is a director, actor, playwright, and producer from Paraguay. Nestor writes for television and theaters and his best and most famous work so far is ‘Saved by a poem’.
Nestor’s parents were Herminia Acosta de Amarilla and Juan de la Cruz Amarilla and have 2 brothers. Being the son of a farmer, Nestor Amarilla lived a simple and humble life. He grew up without even using electricity and television.
Nestor Amarilla met a Peace Corps volunteer, named as Kristin Callahan, who is 13 years old working near her hometown. He made a deal with Kristin Callahan that she would teach him English and he would teach her the language named as Guarani. Both of them, created a newspaper to read for the local people. This newspaper was named as ‘Kokue Poty’ and they decided to teach the English language to the local people.
The most precious thing that Nestor Amarilla learned from Kristin was to dream and believe that everything is possible in life. Then, Kristin encouraged him to research about the American Field Service, about the possibility of studying in a foreign country. Nestor met the director of Wallin Foundation, while he was singing with famous choir Vocal Essence. The director of Wallin Foundation was impressed by the young aspiration to succeed and by his pleasant background, that she rewarded him a full scholarship to complete his college career in the United States.
Nestor Amarilla selected the Metropolitan State University in Minnesota. Requested that he wanted to learn television and mass communication; he selected the career of television and dramatic arts. Later on, his professor suggested him that he changed his focus into writing plays that can be carried to the stage. Discovering this new idea, he concentrated on acting and directing field.
Nestor Amarilla graduated in 2005, from Metropolitian State University with a bachelor’s degree in Theater and Mass Communication. Nestor was hired as the Director of Fiction for channel 13, by the Chena Company in 2008. That similar year, he was named as the Director of the Fiction department and also directed the talk show known as Ellas.
In Asuncion at the Latino Theater, Nestor Amarilla directed ‘Fecha Feliz’, the Guarani and Spanish form of ‘Saved by a Poem’. This play tells a true story of Nestor’s family during the stroessner regime. On 8th March, Nestor was asked to present the same play again at the Teatro Municipal de Asuncion; which received many good reviews. And this date, 8 March celebrated as the Women day.
Nestor Amarilla launched his new book, on 19th April 2011 named as LA PRUEBERA. Servilibro, the editorial company published his book for Paraguay.
