Paraguay is a land of mixed culture. In visual arts, one may find the influence of European and indigenous art. Paraguay has won the international recognition in lace making and embroidery work. There has been a boom in Paraguay visual art, from 20th century.

In Paraguay the forms of visual arts mainly deal with the branches of cinema, sculpture and painting. There has been an inflow of Latin American culture in visual arts. Popular artisan from Brazil have made Paraguay a special place in their heart and cooperated in the copiousness of painting and other arts in Paraguay.

A unique piece of Paraguay art is binds engraving, which had its 1st important school ‘Julian de la Herreria’, from the Center of Brazilian Studies, established in 1956. Initially, it was managed by Edith Jimenez and later on by Livio Abramo, the Brazilian teacher, who arrived in 1962 to complete 30 years of cultural work of love, till his death.

Livio Abramo brought current engraving techniques and under his guidance he produced many generations of artists, starting with the group of pioneer made up of Leonor Cecotto, Jacinto Rivero, Lotte Schulz, Miguela Vera, Edith Jimenez and the Olga Blinder. One cannot forget ‘Josefina Pla’ in this field, who developed an art approaching with indigenous and folk motifs.

The indigenous and visual art of Paraguay were finally composed with the support of the modern techniques of engraving. Since, the first decades of the 20th Century, the field of drawing also produced popular artists that include: Andres Guevara and Miguel Acevedo, who captured the human spirit in their work very well. Later, on other artist arrived in this platform namely Selmo Martinez, Jenaro Hindu and Luis Alberto Boh created fantastic motifs.
