The Indigenous art has created a large collection of creative expressions in Paraguay. It is a matter of self-respect for the people of Paraguay. In 20th century, archaeologists have discovered several artistic works of Paraguay.
The works of Indigenous art continue to be created in the rural areas of Paraguay by the people like the Guarani. Their brilliance in art cannot be understated although these works are essentially handicraft items. These forms of handicraft items of Paraguay have also influenced the artists of Europe. These forms are basically of feathered ornaments and basketwork, which develop the oldest artistic forms of the Guarani people.
Indigenous feather art comes from different ethnicities, such as the Guarani who make use of ‘jeguaka’ for special ceremonies, or the ‘Nivacle’ that wear plumes created with colorful feathers. In Indigenous, the most impressive creation of feather art is the ornately comprehensive cloaks, made of wonderful feathers. Once upon a time this kind of feather art was reserved only for the Guarani Shamans.
The Indigenous people also display the artistic excellence in basketwork. The baskets and bags are created by ornate weaving, and continue to be an item of utility or a piece of art. The items which are basically used for basketwork include the palm, caraguata, tacuarembo and pindo.
There are many museums in Paraguay featuring an Indigenous art and one of those is ‘Andres Barbero Ethnogrsphic’ Museum, located in Asuncion, created in 1929.
